Principal's Message - December 2009

Dear Arlington Families,

Happy December! I want to pass along warm wishes to you and all of our Arlington Families and Friends! Thank you for all of your kindness, support, and goodness. Enjoy your time off of school this month. I hope you are able to spend it with family, friends and loved ones.

Parent conferences take place during the month of December (14th – 18th). You should be receiving letters from your child’s teacher to set up an appointment to discuss your child’s progress. Early release days will be in place with 2:12 dismissal for the entire conference period. Please be sure to make arrangements for pick up. In preparing for Parent Teacher conferences, be sure to mark your calendar with the time and date. Try to be a few minutes early. You may want to have a few questions prepared before attending the conference. Be respectful of the time provided for the conference as other parents are waiting. It may be helpful to write a few of the positive comments, suggestions or goals discussed during the conference. You can use these notes as a springboard to share with your child when you return home. To add a bright spot to your child’s day, you may want to leave a letter addressed to your child on their desk, praising their efforts and accomplishments. Of course have this letter written before arriving to the conference.

With the hustle and bustle of December and the weather turning colder it is very important to remember your health and the health of your family. Here are some ways to keep you, your child and family healthy throughout the winter season.

  1. Try to keep your family routine as consistent and close to normal as possible. This will help to ensure your child is getting plenty of rest.
  2. Try to limit your stress level as it has a direct impact on your health. Are you getting your daily vitamins and nutrients?
  3. Remind your family to wash their hands more frequently to keep the flu away. And if you are anything like my nephew, remind them to use soap! (wink) Singing the birthday song twice is a sure way of combating germs.
  4. Take time to relax even if it is for only 20 minutes a day.
  5. Get out and exercise!

I hope these tips helps to ensure all of you get to stay healthy, enjoy the season and cherish each moment of your child’s life.

Until next time...

Sincerely,

Principal
