Principal's Message - November 2009Dear Arlington Families, It is hard to believe that November is here which marks the beginning of the season for giving thanks. I am so thankful for all of you, our wonderful Arlington families. Your dedication and care is evident everywhere! I am thankful for the many hours you have given reading books, volunteering, sending in items for individual classrooms, the school, or families. The start of November was dedicated to Jumping for Heart. During the
students’ Physical Education time, children spent time developing their
jumping skills rotating through different centers. This was not Speaking of Physical Fitness, California now has standards for Physical education. Parents are able to access them along with all content standards by visiting http://www.cde.ca.gov/be/st/ss/index.asp. Physical activity is so important for children’s development. There is an abundance of research tying physical fitness and sports to academic success. In Dr. John Ratey’s book, Spark, (2007) he stresses the importance of regular exercise with the development of the brain. Ann Rosewater (2009) continues to back to positive effects physical activity and organized sports have on children (http://teamupforyouth.org/dynamic/attachables/media_filename_119.pdf) So despite our weather changing and getting a bit cooler, make sure you schedule in time for fitness to benefit not only your children but the entire family! Have a joyous Thanksgiving Season and until next month . . . . my fondest wishes. Sincerely,
|
