Principal's Message - October 2009Dear Arlington Families, What a fantastic start to our school year! We are happy to report that our enrollment has stayed stable with 588 students…this is actually a few more Superstars this year, than last (581). In the month of September we focused on Arlington’s three school rules, 1. Be Safe We gave examples and even practiced appropriate behaviors during the
all school discipline assemblies. Parents are encouraged to spend some
time going over the discipline matrix with your child or children so they
are aware of the consequences for various behaviors. The discipline matrix
can be found in your Annual Notification of Parents’ Rights and
Responsibilities. It is also located online at
www.tusd.org under the Parents/Students
tab, “Enrollment/ Registration” and then select registration handbook or
you can type in the direct link which is listed below.
http://tusd.org/ParentsStudents/EnrollmentRegistration/RegistrationHandbook/ In addition to talking about the rules, we practiced ways of staying Safe at school. In September we had our first fire drill and “Shelter in Place” drill. It is important for parents to know, if you see a Yellow sign hanging that says, “Shelter In Place” this may be due to police activity and we will not open gates or office/classroom doors for families. Even if you beg saying you need to take your child out for an appointment, we will not open our gates or release children until we are notified it is safe to release students. For the month of October we will practice our Earthquake Drill. On October 15th we will be joining the State by participating in the “Great Shake.” We will have a full EQ drill at 10:15 a.m. We will have several students and staff “acting out” various roles where they are pretending they are injured, trapped, or missing. This will give our school staff an opportunity to practice our safety procedures and evaluate the effectiveness of our plan. Have a fabulous month!
