Principal's Message - September/October 2007
The first few weeks of school have flown by. We are already deep into
academic studies at all levels and have survived the unavoidable student moves that
occurred recently. Much to our disappointment our student enrollment was lower than
expected in the primary grades. Therefore we had to lose a teacher. Our newest
teacher, Ms. Marlette, was reassigned to a fifth grade class at Anza. Mrs.
Eguchi, who had originally been assigned a first/second grade combo, was then
reassigned to the third grade class. The first/second grade students from her room were
sent to appropriate first and second grade classes. Mrs. Wimberley’s class was
also affected. Her assignment remains a kindergarten/first grade combo, although it is
now predominately first grade. Thus several of her kindergarten students were
moved to straight kindergarten classrooms. The transitions were smooth, which is
mainly due to the support of their parents and previous and present teachers.
All of our moves were in place prior to Back-To-School Night. Thank you to
all parents that attended the PTA meeting and the respective teacher/classroom
presentations. We have a quite an academic year planned with the goal of ALL STUDENTS
SUCCEEDING AT ARLINGTON! Having attended the evening event I
am sure you pleased with our upcoming educational programs.
We began the year with the implementation of the health and wellness plan
of our site and the district’s. Most noticeably, you will find that candy or
treats will not be given as rewards at Arlington. Birthday treats or PTA holiday parties will
take place with food items that meet the healthy criteria set forth by the state.
Several of you received copies of suggested food items at Back To School Night. We can
provide you a copy if you wish one.
The Principal’s Lunch Bunch will be somewhat different this year.
Previously, lemonade, and Pizza Hut pizza was consumed. To keep with the healthy
focus, a change has been made. Students will bring their own lunches and we will
sit, eat and socialize. Each student participant will receive a “treasure” instead
of food for being selected by their teacher for recognition of outstanding academics,
study skills, or an individual accomplishment.
October 17, 2007 I will present our student academic data and information
at North High School. All parents are invited to attend this evening for the north
area, which is limited to adults. Babysitting will be offered by the Lincoln YMCA, at
the annex at NHS. The format is similar to last year’s. You can listen to my
presentation in the NHS library, followed by Mrs. Holmes from Casimir, and proceed to the
gym to listen to Mr. Grant Lifkin speak about NHS test results. As an incentive
you will receive a coupon at each setting. We will have an opportunity drawing for
a laptop computer and printer in the NHS Gym. So come for the evening. It’s 6:00
p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Pizza and a beverage will be offered to all that attend. I hope
to see you there. Who knows you may go home with a new computer and printer.
We are off to a fantastic year.
Feel free to contact me at school at any time.
Sincerely,
