Principal's Message - March 2008
Dear Arlington Parents and Guardians,
It’s hard to believe its almost March.....and Spring is around the
corner. This year is just zooming by before our eyes. Our fourth graders
will be assessed on March 4th for their ability to write several cohesive
paragraphs in a composition. This will demonstrate their knowledge of one
of several genres such as Response to Literature, Summary, or Narrative.
Mrs. Mand, Mrs. Nakano and Ms. Conway have been working all year on
these three genres, in addition to many other specific writing skills.
Teachers in kindergarten, first, second and third grades work tirelessly
on student writing skills as well so that the cumulative standardized
writing test in fourth grade will prove successful. Which of the three
genres the students will be expected to write to will be a surprise.
Students won’t know until they open their test booklets on the morning of
March 4, 2008.
We are looking forward to the results of these assessments as we have a
group of strong fourth grade writers who are capable of writing
descriptive, expanded sentences in a well thought out, sequenced
composition, with outstanding opening paragraphs, awesome figurative
language and comprehensive closings. We wish all of our fourth graders
well on completing adequate compositions on the day of the test.
All tests will be sent to the state and we anticipate test results in a
couple of months. This test is part of the STAR testing that is
administered from April 28 through May 16 for second through fifth grade
students. The fourth graders, however, are the only ones taking the
writing portion of the test.
Happy Writing to All,
