Principal's Message - January 2008
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
This is the perfect time of year to wish everyone a safe, prosperous
and peaceful future. Reflection and resolutions are among our thoughts at
this venture in our calendar year. We look at January, as a time to stop
and reflect on how things are, and how we would like them to be. Resulting
resolutions may occur that call for behavior changes.
The process of reflection and resolution is one that Arlington teachers
and I are very familiar with as it is part of our instructional planning
process. We look at the assessment data we have on each student, each
grade level, and the school as a whole. We then consider where we would
like each student, grade level and school to be performing academically.
The implementation of our PLC time (Professional Learning Community) will
allow us to consider as a school, grade level and as individual
instructors how we have provided instruction in the past. For those
students not mastering the material taught, we will then plan for
additional instruction that will be different.
This is a process that goes on all year. The difference is we will be
able to formally, on a weekly basis, be able to address the variety of
programs or strategies to ensure a higher rate of success for all of our
Arlington “All Stars”. Each Wednesday forty-five minutes will be devoted
solely for the purpose of the Arlington staff to delve into the issue of
student achievement and specifically “student learning”. Thank you for
supporting our early dismissal on Wednesdays to allow this important
“growing and learning” time for all of our staff. The outcome will be
evident in the success and high achievement of your children. We are very
proud of our current academic standings. However, as in all New Years’
reflections and resolutions we know we can achieve greater heights….thus
we continue to reach for the stars…..the Arlington All Stars!
