PTA President's Message - October 2009
Hello Arlington Families,
Well, it is certainly hard to believe we are already coming to the end
of our first month of school. I hope everyone had a great start to the new
school year!!!
Once again, I am simply amazed how Arlington families are well, just
that…Amazing just like our Amazing Arlington Superstars. That is why my
theme this year is “Amazing Arlington Superstars” As the school year
progresses, I am sure you too will see just how Amazing Arlington is. In
addition to our wonderful families and all of your support you so
graciously give, we also have an Amazing group of parents comprising our
P.T.A. this year who have already been hard at work preparing for the
upcoming school year. Hope you too, if not already, will be able to join
in on the fun and get involved!!!
Here is how this year started off….
Our PTA Membership Drive immediately got underway under the leadership
of Lori Yamasaki. Students were encouraged to get a minimum of 2 people to
join. Thank you to everyone who signed up for membership. All proceeds go
to support local, state and national PTA, the largest advocacy group for
children in our nation.
A “Welcome Back to School Breakfast” was held for Arlington’s Amazing
Staff coordinated by Dawn Sawyer. Thank you to the many people who brought
delicious goodies for our teachers/staff to enjoy.
Room Parents and Adventures in Art Docents were also sought. Thank you
to all who volunteered to become Room Parents and Adventures in Art
Docents. You will definitely have a strong impact on all of our students.
Thank you to Diane Wang and Chris Mason, respectively for your
coordinating efforts.
P.T.A.’s Annual Fall Fundraiser commenced with a kick-off assembly on
September 22nd. The kids oohed and awed at all the great prizes they could
win!!! Thanks to the generous support of our Arlington families, our P.T.A.
can continue to provide our students with educational assemblies, field
trips, Adventures in Art, library time, various programs and items for the
classrooms, technology, and much, much more. Thank you in advance for your
ongoing support and thank you to Sharon Sawai, Ways & Means for
undertaking this huge event.
The 5th Grade class of 2010 also immediately got busy, selling
Earthquake Kits as both a service to our school and a fundraiser for their
class. With this being their last year of elementary school, they all
deserve to have the best year ever. Thank you for supporting them and
thank you to Shelley Liebsack, 5th grade rep. for her guidance.
Upcoming events include:
Firefighter’s Appreciation Week 10/05-09,2nd/3rd Grade Math Night – 10/22,
Red Ribbon Week 10/26- 30 and Arlington’s Annual Halloween
Parade/Kindergarten Performance – 10/30.
I’m with much joy and excitement looking forward to another Amazing
school year!!!
Have a great October!!!
Respectfully,
Alicia Mashiko
