PTA President's Message - May 2010
Hello Arlington Families,
Another month gone by….
Hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing Spring Break!!! When we
returned from Spring Break, it seemed like the kids had sprung. They all
looked a little bit older to me and a little more grown up. A sure sign
that we are coming closer to the end of another school year and another
reminder how time flies by….
Before we left for Spring Break, K/1 grades held a Family Math Night.
Thank you to our K/1st Grade Teachers for providing an evening of fun
for our K/1 Arlington Families while showing our young ones that
learning math can be fun. Your time and efforts were most certainly
appreciated.
Thank you to K.L. Chok for organizing and coordinating this year’s
Bike Rodeo here at Arlington. Over 50 of our Arlington Superstar bikers
showcased their bicycle skills during this fun filled event. There were
obstacles to maneuver, times to beat and much more fun to be had.
Arlington Bike Rodeo winners advanced to compete in the District Bike
Rodeo that was held on April 17th. Good job Arlington Superstars!!!
Adventures in Art, 5th and final project of the year got underway;
“Mosaic Landscapes” Artist: Susan MacLyman. The history of mosaics goes
back 4,000 years (wow) and students were given the opportunity to use a
variety of materials, including ceramic tiles, found objects such as
buttons and shells to create their own unique mosaic. They then filled
in their landscape with puffy-paint used as grout.
Thank you, once again, to Chris Mason (AIA Chair) and Cayme Momita (AIA
Supplies) and their many art docents and parent volunteers for all of
their hard work and continual efforts. Thank you for another great year
of AIA!!! Thank you for bringing the gift of art to our Arlington
students and allowing them to express themselves in a world where there
is no right nor wrong and where beauty is truly in the eye of the
beholder.
Our Fall Fundraiser wrapped up with a real treat for our Arlington
Superstars. A BMX Bike Show was held right when we returned from Spring
Break. What an energizing, crowd pleasing show!!! The kids loved it!!!
It was quite amazing and somewhat of a thrill to witness the tricks and
stunts the BMX bikers were able to perform. And although the show was
more on the “thrilling” side, there were still lessons that were brought
up about the importance of studying hard and always trying one’s best.
Thank you to Sharon Sawai and Nancie Fukushima for organizing this event
for our amazing Arlington Superstars.
Although we are winding down with this school year, there is still
much more to come. Please look forward to Teacher/Staff Appreciation
Week (5/3-7), Blue Ribbon Week (5/10-14), The AIA Gallery (5/21), the
last PTA Association Meeting (5/27) of this school year that will be
held along with Open House and PTA’s annual Ice Cream Social and a
Scholastic Buy One, Get One Free Book Faire (6/3 –7). Please join us for
all the fun!!!
Until next month (the last month of school!!!), have a great one!!!
Be safe and be well….and enjoy!!!
