PTA President's Message - May 2009
Hello Arlington Families,
Once again, it is certainly hard to believe another month has come and
gone. Hope everyone had a wonderful Spring Break!!!
Before we left for Spring Break, our Arlington Superstars participated
in our 3rd Annual Jog-A-Thon and running/jogging they did. Arlington
Superstars raised close to $20,000.00. Way to go!!! Thank you to Nancie
Fukushima and Sharon Sawai and their awesome committee and volunteers a
plenty for another successful event. The funds raised will continue to
fund school activities for our children such as field trips and
transportation (busses), teacher’s allowances, school assemblies and
events such as Family Math Nights, Reading Incentive Week, Blue/Red Ribbon
Week, Teacher’s Appreciation Week, Adventures In Art, Technology,
Teacher’s Assistance Program and much more. It is with the extraordinary
efforts of our students and the generosity and superlative support of our
families that help to make this all possible. Great job everyone and thank
you to all!!!
Adventures in Art 5th and final project of the year, a mixed media
piece called “Not a Pretty Portrait” began. Students were given the
opportunity to create just that, not a pretty portrait with the use of
warm and cool colors. Special thanks to Diane Wang, this year’s AIA
chairperson, the many AIA docents and parent volunteers for giving to our
students the gift of art, allowing the children to use their creativity to
create their very own masterpieces. In art, there is no right or wrong,
and that in itself is the beauty of it all. Congratulations on another
successful year of art!!!
This year’s Reading Incentive Week theme was “Go Wild About Reading.”
Students were asked to read as much as they could in one week’s time,
April 17th – 24th. Thanks to Jan Nguyen and Terie Tinsley, Chair ”women,”
and all their many volunteers for tallying reading logs and maintaining
animal decorated charts for each classroom showing both individual and
classes as a whole progress. It was a fun and amusing way to get our kids
to go wild about reading!!!
Students were asked to wear blue and green on Earth Day, April 22nd in
celebration of Earth Day 2009. Thanks to Sandra Jones for bringing
awareness of this very important day to Arlington. One point made to our
children was Reduce/Reuse/Recycle and another was Earth Day not only falls
on the 22nd of April but should be recognized every day for a better
tomorrow. Thank you to Arlington for showing you care about our
environment.
Family Math Night for K and 1st grades was held on April, 23rd. What a
fantastic turnout!!! It was so nice to see so many of our Arlington
families gather for this evening event. Thank you to the K and 1st grade
teachers for putting together a fun filled night of mathematical
activities which helped to show our children even at their young age, how
much fun learning math can be.
Upcoming May events include: Teacher Appreciation Week (5/4-8), AIA
Galley (5/15 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.), Blue Ribbon Week (5/18-22), Arlington
PTA Association Meeting #5/Open House/Ice Cream Social (5/21), Buy One,
Get One Free Book Fair (5/26-6/02) and Family Book Fair Day (5/30).
Have another Arlington Superstar Month!!!
