PTA President's Message - April 2008Hello Arlington Families, I want to thank all of you that took the time to sign letters that we
sent to our legislators. North High Junior, Dustin Tygret, along with
other Torrance area high school students, hand delivered these letters in
Sacramento. To see pictures, you can
check out this link. You can also check out TUSD's website to read Dr. Mannon's message regarding our impending budget cuts. These serious cuts by the state will affect every student in Torrance with larger class sizes and loss of many wonderful teachers. Please continue to write letters to our state and city representatives voicing your concern of how this will affect our children. Our children should not suffer the consequences of the states inability to balance the budget. Arlington parents, teachers, and students have signed close to 3,000 letters that were delivered to our government officials thus far. California will drop to 49th out of 50 states on per pupil spending if these cuts go through. (We're already 46th) On a happier note, Reading Incentive Week will start April 21st. All our Arlington students are encouraged to participate in this fun week of reading. There will be some very cool prizes awarded to the classes who read the most; being read to also counts. Also this month will be our final Arlington PTA Association Meeting of this school year. It will be held on Thursday, April 24th at 6:00 p.m. in the cafetorium, immediately before the kindergarten/first grade Family Math Night. Come out to meet next year's PTA board, which will be working so your kids can continue to have wonderful school programs. On April 25th, Arlington will be having their second annual Jog-a-thon. Students will be jogging or walking to once again raise awareness of healthier lifestyles. We are raising money to supplement our current programs and to provide resources and supplies for all Arlington students to succeed. I hope you all will come out and show your support as our students walk or jog their way to a healthier life.
