PTA President's Message - March 2010
Hello Arlington Families,
Well, it again was another busy month here at Arlington.
Thank you to Tim Hartlove for organizing a Used Book Drive which took
place towards the end of January. The books collected were given to a
company called PLAY – Providing Laughter and Amusement for Youths. Thank
you to everyone for your generous donations. The books are sure to bring
much deserving laughter and amusement to, I am sure, a group of much
deserving youths. Reading is a wonderful way to open up one’s
imagination and take our children to faraway places even if it is only
in their imagination. Next, thanks to Karen Paguirigan, Arlington held a
Scholastic Book Fair which was held from February 1st through the 9th.
It was an exciting and fun filled event for our students and families.
Students were given an opportunity to shop for books and other various
items before and after school and during scheduled classroom visits. A
Family Book Fair Day was held on Saturday, February 5th and our 5th
grade class of 2010 sold yummy treats including hot dogs, chili dogs,
spam musubi, chili rice, chips, baked good, drinks and much more. It was
definitely a fun filled week for our Arlington families. Thanks again to
Karen for all of your time and efforts.
Arlington took 4th place in the 2009 South Bay Galleria Rewards
Program. Thank you to Paula Samora for coordinating and distributing
information throughout the year in regards to the program. Remember, if
you are doing any shopping or know families, friends, neighbors,
co-workers who are shopping at the South Bay Galleria, to please have
any receipts stamped at the Customer Service Desk on behalf of
Arlington. Arlington will receive points for every dollar spent and at
the end of the year, points will be totaled and schools will be ranked
and rewards will be presented accordingly. Thank you to Paula on a job
well done. Care Grams were sold by this year’s 5th Grade Class. Care
Grams were for sale before and after school and were delivered February
12th. I am not sure who had more fun, the person buying the Care Gram or
the person receiving them. I am guessing both parties were tickled to do
the buying and the receiving. It was a nice way to show someone you
care. Great job to our 5th Graders for taking on this event!!!
Our 3rd P.T.A. Association Meeting of the year was held on February
18th. In addition to P.T.A.’s regular business, elections were held for
next year’s P.T.A. Officers:
President – Sharon Sawai, 1st V.P. – Diane Wang, 2nd V.P. – Jan Hirata,
3rd V.P. – Karen Paguirigan, 4th V.P. – Paula Samora, Recording
Secretary – Cayme Momita, Treasurer – Nancie Fukushima, Financial
Secretary – Laura Shiozaki, Auditor – Gina Mullin and Historian – Teris
Tinsley. Congratulations to our newly elected 2010-2011 P.T.A. Officers.
You are all sure to do a fabulous job!!! Arlington is lucky to have all
of you…
Arlington’s annual Founder’s Day & Honorary Service Awards
Program/Reflections Awards Winners presentation was held following the
meeting. Thank you so much to 5 Star Members: Alison Lacey, Rachel
Liebsack, Sera Shimooka, Kayla Sawyer and Annie Crawford for their
presentation of P.T.A. Founder’s Day History. Thank you to Barbara
Crawford, Mr. Kamida and the 4th & 5th Grade Students for a splendid
“Hopelessly Devoted to School” Honorary Service Awards Program.
Congratulations to all of our HSA Recipients!!! Thank you also to Jan
Nguyen and Terie Tinsley, Reflections Chairs, for recognizing our
Arlington Superstar Reflections Award Winners. All the children did a
fine job on this year’s theme “Beauty Is” and it was a treat to view
some of their pieces and see them come up and receive their awards.
Looking forward to another month filled with all kinds of activities.
Have a great March!!!
