PTA President's Message - February 2010

Hello Arlington Families,

Well, time is certainly going by very fast. It is hard to believe we are already in the month of February which means, we are halfway through this school year. Hope everyone was able to get back into the routine of things once we got back from winter break. It was nice seeing all the children back at school, meeting and greeting each other after having not seen each other for a while.

Well, I guess I can reveal our amazing Superstar who received the Award of Excellence from The Torrance Council of PTA’s with her Reflections photography entry entitled “The Beauty of Mothers and Daughters.” CONGRATULATIONS!!! to Hana Escovar for her outstanding achievement. Her entry advanced to the next tier of judging at the Thirty-Third District level. We all wish her good luck and congratulate her once again on a job well done!!!

Adventures in Art 3rd project of the year got underway “Hands in Rodin.” Again, we want to recognize Chris Mason, AIA Chairperson and Cayme Momita, AIA Supplies and the many art docents and parent volunteers for their ongoing efforts. It may seem matter of factish that our children just do an art project out of the air per se, but there is a lot of time that goes into preparing for these projects. Workshops are attended by the docents where they actually do the project themselves (a learning workshop) so that they can come back to school and show our students how the projects are done, utilizing the help of many parent volunteers. Come May, there will be an AIA Gallery which will feature one piece of art from every student. So thank you “Adventures in Art” for bringing art to Arlington.

A Math Night for our 4th/5th Graders was held on Thursday, January 21st. Although, that was the week - we had a lot of rain falling from the sky, the event was still well attended and enjoyed by all who were there. Thank you to our 4th/5th grade teachers for showing our children math can be fun!!!

Speaking of all these events, I just wanted to reiterate, all of these events that are held throughout the year, including AIA, Red Ribbon Week, Family Math Nights, Reading Incentive Week, Teacher’s Appreciation Week, Blue Ribbon Week, Assemblies, the Library, Newsletters, P.T.A. Directory, Field Trips, Pre-Recorders, Recorders, Daily Planners and much more are made possible because of the fundraisers that our Arlington families so generously support. Because of budget cuts, Arlington’s P.T.A. is able to provide extras for our children that might not otherwise be possible if it weren’t for the support of our Arlington families, teachers, staff and friends. So, thank you for your ongoing generosity and support!!!

We have a very busy rest of the school year ahead of us. Be sure to check the Arlington P.T.A. website @ www.arlingtonpta.com 24/7 to keep updated on all the activities and events happening here at school and around our community as well.

And lastly, with time going by so fast and everyone’s busy schedules, I really hope once in a while if more often than not, we can all take the time to really enjoy our children. Once yesterdays come, that time can never be gotten back. Enjoy your todays and tomorrows before they become yesterdays. Our amazing children are our future…

Happy February!!!
