PTA President's Message - January 2010
Hello Arlington Families,
Happy New Year!!! 2010!!! Wow….
Hope everyone had a wonderful and happy holiday season and enjoyed
the time off with your family and friends!!!
Prior to winter break, in November, The Reflections Contest came to
an end. Good job to all the many students who participated this year and
showcased your amazing talents and creativity. Word has it, one of
Arlington’s very own Superstars placed first in one of the categories at
the Torrance District level. Congratulations to that individual. I don’t
want to ruin any surprises but in time (if not already), that
Superstar’s name will be revealed. Thank you to Jan Nguyen and Terie
Tinsley for chairing this event.
AIA’s second project of the year titled “My Blue Dog” got underway.
Children were given the chance to replicate George Rodrigue’s painting
by first drawing it with a grid system and then painting with acrylic
paints. Thank you to the many AIA docents, parent volunteers and chair
Chris Mason and supplies chair Cayme Momita for your countless,
dedicated hours.
December marked the start of holiday giving and this year Arlington’s
Holiday Giving benefited the 1736 House. The items requested were
brightly displayed on a bulletin board in front of the office and the
items collected were delivered to their holiday gift shop. Thank you to
everyone for your caring and for your generosity. Surely, you helped to
brighten the holiday season of others who may not be so fortunate. Thank
you to Dawn Sawyer for organizing this heartfelt event.
The 2nd PTA Association Meeting of the year was held on Thursday,
December 10th. Immediately following the meeting, our Superstar 2nd
Graders treated a standing room only audience to “A Bear-y Merry
Holiday” program performance. Thank you to all the 2nd grade teachers
and students for your wonderful performance and for getting everyone
into the holiday spirit!!!
And lastly, before we parted for our winter break, we had a visit
from someone who came to see our amazing Arlington Superstars and I am
guessing that is why he took the time out of his busy schedule to visit
because of just that reason... Arlington being simply amazing!!!
Before we proceed with the remainder of the school year, I just want
to say thank you to all of our Arlington families and friends, our
teachers and administrators, our dedicated PTA group, and our many, many
volunteers for all you do and your continuous support of our Arlington
children. Our children are our future….
Looking forward to the rest of the school year!!! Have a great
year!!!
Respectfully.
